My holiday wish to you…

Blessed is the season which engages the whole world in a conspiracy of love (pencil drawings by Diane Mottl, beingtrulypresent.com)

I made the video below last year when I was testing out VideoScribe (which is on my wish list – smile). It takes less than a minute to watch but I hope the message stays with you far longer. It is my wish to you… All the best to you this holiday season, however and whatever you celebrate. May it bring you peace, joy and love… “Christmas gift suggestions: To your enemy, forgiveness. To an opponent, tolerance. To a friend, your heart. To a customer, service. To all, charity. To every child, a good example. To yourself, respect.” — Oren Arnold […] Read more »

Stepping out of the comfort zone (again)…

Screenshot from Inknowation video

A friend posted a video on Facebook made by Inknowation called “Do you dare to dream?” Since I had not come up with an idea for a blog post, I decided to see if the video inspired anything in me. Right away, Panic Zone versus the Magic Zone jumped out at me. When I think of moving out of my own comfort zone, I wish I could say the unknown feels like a magical place where wonderful things can happen. Nope. I am one of those people who leads with panic. My skeletons start rattling and say, “Don’t go there, you […] Read more »

Like a tree…

For a tree to become tall it must grow tough roots among the rocks.

Nature has a way of grounding me and connecting me to something bigger than myself. Trees, in particular, have meaning. The way they cling to the side of a mountain, roots exposed, yet leaves flourishing. The impossible – yet possible – way they grow out of what looks like solid rock. There is so much strength, adaptability and flexibility in trees. When the wind whips at their fragile branches, the trunk sways but rarely breaks, held solid by roots that reach deeply into the earth and hang on. The spindly branch bows under the weight of a squirrel, yet has the flexibility and […] Read more »

Deflating worry…

Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy

Are you a worrier? Do you find your thoughts whirling in the world of what-ifs more often then you would like? Do you recognize when you are getting caught up in these thoughts? I know when I am in worry-mode, it is a sure sign that I am disconnected from the present moment and have jumped ahead to the future. Logically I know what a waste of time worry is. It does absolutely nothing to prepare or protect me. The only thing it does is cloud my mind and keep me from being in the present moment (where I can actually do something […] Read more »

Loosening the hold of fear and doubt…

Fear is only as deep as the mind allows

Do you lose your footing at times? Get derailed by fears? Get thrown off-centre by doubts that have wriggled their way in? Do you know how to ground yourself to feel solid again? As I pursue my goal of becoming a writer, I find myself being bitten by the doubt/fear bug more often then I would like (smile). I realize this is part of the life of a writer, but thought I was prepared. What I am finding, is that when you pursue something you are passionate about – want more than anything – those doubt/fear bites can catch you off […] Read more »

Living purposefully…

At any moment

Do you believe you have been put on this earth for a reason?  That you have a calling?  Or callings?  Have you found your purpose?  Still searching for it?  Have inklings, but still not sure? Is your mind getting in the way? Yes, you read that correctly. Your mind can get in the way of discovering your passion, your purpose.  Old thoughts, beliefs and patterns can result in us pushing away an idea, closing a door too quickly or can distract us from seeing the crack of light from an opening door. So, how do we learn to be open to […] Read more »

Trusting your inner wisdom…

Trust your Inner Wisdom

Do you believe you have an inner voice, an inner wisdom that guides you? Some call it intuition; others call it a gut feeling; while others call it their soul or a voice that connects them to something bigger than themselves. It comes from deep within. Some describe it as a voice they can hear; others experience it more like a feeling, an energy, a sensation. Have you learned to listen to this inner voice? Trust it? “Each one of us has all the wisdom and knowledge we ever need right within us. It is available to us through our […] Read more »

A mindfulness moment…

Being present takes practice.  Think about it for a moment.  How present are you in the hustle and bustle of your everyday life?  Are you thinking ahead to what you need to do later today?  Thinking ahead to the conversation you need to have?  Distracted by the nagging feeling that you’ve forgotten to do something?  Or are you being pulled into the past: replaying an event over and over again in your head, wishing you would have said something different; handled it differently? We live in a society that rewards multitasking.  The more you can juggle; the more you can take on […] Read more »

What trips you up?

Being Still

If you haven’t already, take a moment to watch the video in the right sidebar (or via YouTube) called Being Truly Present.  Then stop for another moment and check-in with yourself.  What trips you up?  Do you find yourself: Looking outside, rather than within? Having difficulty finding the quiet: to hear the voice within? Being so focused on the end result — what you want to achieve; where you want to go — that you’re disconnected and missing what is right in front of you? Falling into the fear trap: the needing to control?  Wanting to know where the path goes, before taking the first step? If […] Read more »

Being in the left, right…both?

Right Brain - Left Brain Phtot from Photo Pin

This isn’t a post about whether it is “better” to be right-brained or left-brained.  Or whether one is “left-brain dominant” or “right-brain dominant” (or if that even exists).  No, it’s about how to harness both sides of your brain.  How to move from one side to the other.  If you’re “stuck” in the left…how to move yourself into the right.  And most fun of all, it will include an empowering podcast visualization exercise at the end. If you’re a writer, you’ll know what it’s like to feel stuck and disconnected from the more creative, free-flowing side of yourself.  If you’re not a writer…you […] Read more »
