Tactile memories…

Please allow me another short break from my usual post. My Dad (in-law) passed away this week at the age of 88. The saying “he was larger than life” is one way to sum up this incredible man. Since I have had no time (or inclination) to write a well-thought out blog post, I have decided to share a short creative non-fiction piece. A few days after our beloved cat Gator died (two weeks ago yesterday), I was faced with a writing assignment about memories. We were asked to “Find an object…hold it in your hand, and, with your eyes […] Read more »

Staying in the present moment (even in grief)…

Who can believe that there is no soul behind those luminous eyes

In the last three days of his life, Gator (our beloved cat), taught me an unexpected life-lesson about being in the present moment. The day I found out we would have to say goodbye in only a few short days, I was distraught. The Hummingbird’s Gift The morning sun is taking the chill out of the air, but I still cup the […] Read more »

Healing energy…what do you believe?

Sketch of Gator

The other day, I watched The Green Mile (again – smile). Each time it strikes a different note within me.  As I was reflecting on it, our cat Gator jumped up on my chest and made himself comfortable. Up and down he went with each of my breaths, his purrs rumbling, reverberating on my chest and in my ears. With the Green Mile still in my thoughts, the idea of doing a visualization exercise popped into my head. One to get me out of the heavy place I was in, the other for Gator, who is not well. I imagined breathing in […] Read more »

Living an authentic life…

picture of snowflake with quote about becoming who you truly are

What does it mean to live authentically? The phrase is kicked around a lot. Live an authentic life. Be authentic. But how do we find that place within ourselves? How do we know we are not being influenced by past messages and beliefs? Being authentic means coming from a real place within. It is when our actions and words are congruent to our beliefs and values. It is being ourselves: not an imitation of what we think we should be or have been told we should be. There is no “should” in authentic. But wait a minute. If being authentic […] Read more »
